Demonstration 101
For my many readers outside the US, a little explanation of the title of this message is needed. In America, a basic University class, such as College English or Western Civilization is called a "101" course, as in Western Civ 101. Demonstration is what we in Science of Mind call the manifestation in your life of that which you desire and do Treatment (affirmative prayer) to create in your life. To use a Biblical reference, "you shall know them by their fruits", in other words, look at the Christian's results to see whether they talk the talk or walk the talk. So, you see, Demonstration 101 is simply a lesson on how to use the basics of Science of Mind to begin Demonstrating your good use of God's Principle and Law in your life.
A person is judged not by his or her words but rather by the fruits or results of their use of the Law and their ability to use the Christ Mind that is in each of us to create the life experience they want and deserve. The parable of the fig tree is a good example of Jesus teaching this principle in a very direct and blunt way.
Are you the barren fig tree or is the tree of your life laden with the lucious fruit of your demonstration - your evidence of your good and wise use of God's Spiritual Law. If the Law does not produce good in your life, what use is it and why do we have it? Be careful of your use of the Law, it works in both directions equally. It is impersonal, like the Sun it works for the good and the bad equally.
The first lesson we must learn is that God loves us because we are part of Him and He is in us. He loves us for the same reason that we take good care of our bodies and would never willingly cut off a finger or an arm. His love is NOT an earthly love of lust, Ego and personality. It is a constant, never wavering, dependable love that comes from His Unity with us and His knowledge that He is in us and we are in Him.
He loves us because He loves Himself and we are Him. He does not love us because of who we are or who we are not. He knew you and I from the beginning of time; we are not a surprise to God. There is much we do not know about ourselves but nothing that God does not know about us. The message here is to be a peace with yourself because God is at peace with you. Your are a soul in training, you have much to learn - that is why you are here in this thing we call Life.
The second lesson is that God is impersonal. We may have a personal experience and conception of God, but God sees its creations much as we might view the fingers of our hand. He created them, he grew them, He uses them to do His work, He cares for them, but He does not favor the index finger over the pinkie or the left hand over the right. He cares and loves all with the same measure. It is so hard for us to see things in the Cosmic Way that God does, because we are bound by time and space and by relativity (one thing is always relative to another). God lives and moves and has its being in us and in all it creates. God lives in the Absolute which is impossible for humans to experience and difficult for us to understand.
Here is the big point of this: Please understand that God loves you dearly but God really does not care what you do or how you live. That is your business and indeed your job here on earth. You will reap the rewards of a life lived in love, joy, in the Law and with God at your center.
Likewise, you will reap the consequences of a life lived in anger, sorrow, divorced from God in your heart, believing you are all there is. God won't do this to you - understand this! God never punishes, God never rewards - that is the little Sunday School God you could understand as a child.
Put away childish things and understand that God's Law of Cause and Effect, of Compensation, of Mind Action - these natural Laws, instituted by God at the beginning of time, these are what sends back and reflects in your life what you are inside. Just as a mirror is not punishing you by showing the wrinkles and grey of time and hard living neither is this mirror rewarding you by reflecting the bloom and beauty of your youth and vigor. It merely reflects what and who you are. You send out each second of your life what you truly are deep inside and that comes back refected perfectly as your life. If your life sucks, you better clean up who you are!
Do you see how understanding this changes everything? You are the causitive factor in your life, not some capricious God who wants to control your every action. You are responsible for your life and that is hard for many to accept - much easier to be a pawn in the hands of a great and powerful being. While you are resonsible, you are NOT to blame, there is no blame attached to God's relationship to you.
Here is the good part. You are now empowered to change your life any time you wish. You have a Divine License to change yourself and your life into anything you are willing to live with. Be careful, you make the bed, you get to lie in it! But you are the vessel and the channel, God is the power and you decide how to use this power. God is impersonal and totally predictable. God operates by LAW, never by caprice or whim. That is why we call our philosophy and Faith, Religious Science or Science of Mnd.
The third lesson today is simply this: Jesus taught exactly what I have just taught. He used parable and the language of his day but in a very real sense He was the world's first Religious Scientist. At the heart of His teaching was the realization that God is not a being up in the sky but a Spirit, an Intelligence that is everywhere present, all at the same moment. God is present in US and we in HIM. Jesus also taught that we "are all gods in becoming", that our nature is a microcosm of the nature of God. We aren't finished products but we will be at some point in time. Jesus taught that the Soul is eternal and ever evolving to a higher and higher state.
Lastly, His central teaching is that things are exactly the way YOU think that they are. As a man thinketh, so he is. Jesus knew perfectly the use of the Law, which is how he performed "miracles" as we style things we do not understand.
As He taught us, "greater things than I have done, will you do also, IF you believe". In other words, if your faith is complete and you have a perfect understanding of the operation of the Law, as Jesus did, you can do what Jesus did and more. He was human, you are human so you can do it. Whether you wish to totally devote your life to this goal, as He did, is a matter only you can decide.
