The Divine Partnership
In my last post, entitled "Life Is an Inside Job", we discussed the concept that our life is a result of our thinking. By this I mean that the life we each live is a result of our beliefs, thought patterns, choices and speaking. This is influenced by our genetic heritage, our cultural programming, our parents, or the lack of them, but these are influences only as long as we wish to be influenced by them. We choose our destiny by what we do, say and think.
If our lives were the result of outside influences, our culture or our genes, then we would all live the life that some outside force wanted us to live and we would therefore all have similar lives. In truth, no two of us on this planet is really living the same life. There are over 6 Billion individual states of mind on this rock we live on. Your state of mind, creates your world. Each of our personal worlds is created by individual actions; our failure to act, our choices, our speaking, our apathy or our involvement.
Having said this, does it not follow that since we have created our personal world, can we not change it at any time that we have the gumption, will and desire to do so? Sometimes we hear the phrase, "it is written". Yes it is, on the screens of our minds and nowhere else.
What about God? Does not God ordain our individual lives? Some would say yes, I say no.
There is NO great book somewhere with our life written upon it making each of us simply automotons mouthing the words and actions that are pre-ordained for us. This is an idea promulgated by those who refuse to take responsibility for their lives. The idea of predestination is a recipe for lifelong victimhood; surely you cannot be held accountable for that which is already written for you long before your birth. If "it is written" by the hand of God, then mere mortals like you and me cannot change our destiny. To hold us to account for our lives- why it would be like blaming the actor in a play for the poor quality of the script.
We are the playwright. We are the director, the writer, the leading man or woman. We do receive resources and inspiration from the producer. The Producer is God. Like the movie producer, His job is to marshall all that is necessary, to provide the funding and the resources and then let us make of it what we will. I call this the Divine Partnership.
You and I and all of humanity are partners with God, the Most High God and the Indwelling God who are one and the same. We cannot do our job without God because something cannot be made from nothing. The something we must have to create anything, to even exist, is the Creative Action of God who is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end of all that exists now, ever has existed and ever will exist. We must have the Divine Spiritual and Physical Laws, such as gravity, knetic motion, hydraulics, cause and effect, compensation and many more; for these are the very operating system of the Universe. These come from the Mind and design of God.
How do we actually create a new world for ourselves? We understand and may be comfortable with the world we inhabit right now but how do we move from the current state of being into a new state? That, I believe, is the question of the ages. Ok, you may say, I know where I am now how do I get to where I want to be?
We must accept one truth before any of this can make sense. Everything that we experience in life is the result of a state of mind. God's Mind, our mind or the collective mind of our culture, family, school or nation. Nothing exists outside of Mind. If there were no thought, there would be no existence. Descartes put it well: I think, therefore I am. Exactly!
Your current situation is a direct result of your previous state of mind. Your present thoughts impregnate your future so perhaps it would be wise to get control of your thinking and speaking and the choices that flow from that thinking. Want to change the state of mind you are in and with it the reality of your life? Good, God has given you the greatest power in the Universe - the power to CHANGE YOUR MIND!
You can move at will from one state of being to another by just changing you mind - what you think about, what you speak about, what you expect in your life, what you are willing to allow in your life, who you are willing to allow in your life, what you believe about your health, your wealth, and most of all what you believe about your self.
Where does God come into this? God built the system we call the Universe and the set of Laws that govern its operation. God keeps renewing it and expanding it. God designed and built us and all life on every planet. God gave us free will and the almost magical ability to go where we have never been and be whom we have never been, without leaving our chair. We call this ability to mentally travel through time and space imagination. Your imagination is not mere useless fancy, it is the key to your entire life!
I cannot stress strongly enough that if you cannot imagine the life that you wish to live; imagine it in a way that it is so real that you can almost taste it, touch it, live it, then you will always be in chains to to the life you have right now. How do you develop your imagination? Dream big dreams, no matter how foolish they may seem now. Read everything that you can get your hands on. Books are the meat and potatoes of the imagination. They are the bread and cheese of your mental life.
Start by reading about and dreaming about the life you want to have. Begin by building a mental picture of who you want to be, where you want to be and what you want to do. Even if you are in the midst of war and turmoil; surrounded by very tyough conditions, you will find a way if you have the imagination to dream it and the guts and WILL to live it. You are not bound by precedent. You are not a prisoner of you race, culture, heritage, family - you are a beloved creation of a loving Father and it is your right to create the life you want. No one will do it for you - you must make the changes that will change your life. Unless you change, nothing changes in your life.
May God inspire you in your waking and sleeping and may He give you the strength to change your thinking and thereby change your life.
