Your Constant Mirror

It has been said that if you look at a person's life, you are seeing a snapshot of what is inside that person. I believe that this is entirely true. Every major religion in this world says basically that this is so. Jesus told his disciples when asked where the Kingdom of Heaven (defined as peace, abundance, joy and the happy life) was: "Look not up there or over here or to this one or that one, but look within! There you will find the Kingdom of Heaven" The Koran says very plainly that to find the Kingdom of God, you must look within yourself. The Buddhist and Hindu vedas say that Oneness and Peace may only be found within oneself.

You see, the common ground of all great religions is that all lasting and true change comes only from within and that the key to life is found within each one of us. Nothing lasting is achieved by fiddling with the circumstances of your life; moving, changing spouses, changing jobs, face lifts, new hair styles. I suppose there is nothing wrong with changing those things once YOU have changed from the inside out. In fact, once you look at life, God, family, love, wealth, work, health and joy in a new light, you will automatically find yourself changing many things about yourself and about how you live.

First you must change, then your world will change. Why is this so seldom done? Why do most people re-arrange deck chairs on their own personal Titanic, rather than make the inner changes of mind, heart and Spirit that will lead to a new and better life? Perhaps it is because it is so much easier to blame outside people or circumstances, or luck, or the goddess Fortuna or Fate or God than to change who we are from the inside out. If outside things are to blame, let's change the outside stuff and surely our lives will become better, right?

A fool's errand, my friends. I had a dear friend who moved about every two years to nearly every city of any size west of the Mississippi River (wouldn't go East, don't ask me why) believing that a "change of scene or a change of "energy" would change their life. Nothing ever really changed; as far as I know things still haven't really changed in this person's life. Why, because wherever this person went, there SHE was! Who and what you are inside goes with you and can never be changed until you are willing to do the work. Changes of scene and changes of people just mean that your problems and challenges just dress up in different clothes and wear different masks but are still there.

Is it hard to transform your life from the inside out? You bet it is! Is it worth it? Well, how much is your life and your happiness and the happiness of those you love worth? Everything in the world, that's how much, so YES it is worth it. It may be the hardest thing you have ever done but, my God, you will know that you have fulfilled your life's real purpose, to learn, to grow and to discover the great secret of life. That secret is that your life is totally YOUR creation and that you have been licensed by God, the Most High God and the Indwelling God (one and the same) to use His power to change your world from the inside out.

How do you know what to change? Look at your life, right now! Where are you missing the mark? Where are you falling short of the life you dreamed of, the life you were born to live? Take stock of what in your personal world that you would change if you had the power. Then take a look at what you believe, what you think, and what you say to yourself over and over each day. Listen to what you talk about with others. What is your conversation about? Is it uplifting? Is it happy? Is it cheerful and optimistic, even when outside facts don't support those thoughts and words? If the answer is no, you have just discovered the reason why your life is not all you want it to be. What is your favorite gripe, your favorite complaint? Do you have this in your life? Of course you do, you feed it every day that you complain about it. What you focus on is what you create in your life - positive or negative.

Think and speak only of things of good report the Bible says, and it still is news to most of us! Why? Any farmer can tell you that you cannot harvest corn if you plant radishes! How do we expect to harvest love when we are not lovable? How can we expect to harvest abundance and wealth when we talk poor and have resentment toward those who have much? How can we expect to be well in body when we talk endlessly about our "conditions", diseases and ailments? How can we experience joy when we talk endlessly about all the terrible things that happen on the news? You reap only what you sow. You attract only what you ARE! Become a new you and get a new life!

Speak a new Word and and get a new World. Think a new thought and get a new reality! That really takes a lot of determination, a lot of mental and spiritual discipline and a lot of guts. Yes, courage, because your old friends may not like the new you, your family may think you have gone nuts but it is YOUR life and it is too important to continue to miss the mark, to continue to be less than you were born to be. Do you love yourself and love God enough to do this? Begin by expecting what you want to show up in your life - that is the starting point.
