Let's Talk About Prayer!
Prayer is perhaps the most powerful spiritual tool available to the human race; but it is also the most misunderstood and misused.
Most of us were taught as children to pray kneeling by our bedside with our hands together, our head bowed and our eyes shut. We were taught to repeat words that asked a great being far, far away in heaven (where that was we had no idea) to grant us a favor or keep us safe or make mommy and daddy like each other again or whatever the favor of the moment was. No matter what church mommy and daddy sent us to, the common theme was of begging a far away all -powerful being for something that we lacked, wanted or needed. The begging or "supplication" type of prayer is what most people think of when the word prayer is mentioned.
The problem with begging is that it has a built in probability of failure. You might get it and then again; you might not. The odds are not good. God has to be in a very good mood that day in order for Him to suspend natural laws and give us what we want. The results are also dependent on how "good" or "bad" we have been. Not much predictability or reliability with this method! Perhaps that' s why so many have turned from God and from prayer because it seems so incredibly random and capricious. Rather like a Divine Lottery!
For those with eyes to see and ears to hear - listen to this: Never beg God for anything again! Prayer does not impel God to do anything for anyone! Prayer does not persuade or influence God in any way. That probably is quite a shocking statement to most of my dear readers. You must get this point in order to unlock the true power of Prayer. Once you suspend your encrusted childhood beliefs about prayer and God's nature, you will have freed yourself to create the life and the world that you want and deserve.
This is how and why prayer works. Prayer works on our mind to open us to receive that which we have already been given. It gets us out of our own way - a state in which we spend most of our lives it often seems! Prayer opens the connection between God and each of us that is hardwired in every human. We close this connection when we believe in the facts of the world more than we believe in God's sacred guarantee that we will be provided for NO MATTER WHAT - as long as we believe and have trust and faith. He provides for the birds and the lilies who neither spin nor sow; would He do less for his beloved human Creations?
We are always ready to pay attention to the "facts" that we receive from family, friends, TV, the Internet. When we believe the "facts" we are stating in clear terms that we do not believe in the promise The Most High God has made to every human. Prayer returns us to Spirit, it sweeps aways the factual debris that fills our lives and reminds us of Truth - the Truth that is eternal.
Prayer stills our fear and comforts us when we are in crisis or in fear. Prayer quiets our little "monkey mind" (Ego chatter) and allows us to hear the voice of our dear God as She comforts us and directs our actions to a perfect conclusion of the problem. Prayer is mental medicine - it is Spiritual surgery.
That is why those of us who live the Science of Mind way of life call prayer Spiritual Mind Treatment or just Treatment for short. What's in a name? Everything - words are the most powerful things you can imagine, in fact God created all that is by speaking The Word. We create our entire lives by the thoughts we think, the words we speak and the choices we make. Spiritual Mind Treatment is just what prayer is - it is a Treatment for a mind ill in spirit. It is a healing balm for a mind too much in this world and not enough in the real world of Spirit. It is a treatment to heal a mind paralysed with fear, doubt, victim hood, or sorrow.
It is one thing to discuss what prayer is but quite another to know how to do it effectively.
Begging won't get it ladies and gentlemen. You beg for that which you do not now have and that is not your Truth. You have everything you need to live the magnificent life you were designed to live - you have just forgotten this great Truth. You have clogged up the connection to the Father with facts and false beliefs so that you no longer are aware of who you really are - a Divine Being, a Creation of the Most High God. You have God within you and all around you. The only one who can separate you from God is YOU!. Prayer serves to remind you of who you really are!
Well, Dore', If I am not to beg, how shall I pray? Here is the formula for scientific prayer or what we call Spiritual Mind Treatment.
First, state with conviction the fact that God and you are one, put all fear and doubt behind you, ignoring the symptom's of dis-ease or lack and keep your mind, your thoughts and your Word on Truth. You pray in the NOW, never in the present. You state the condition or desired thing as already done, created and received. You express gratitude for your healing or the money you need or the love you want because it is already here. It has always been here just waiting for you to wake up and let it into your life. Here it is in simple terms.
I AM : Recognize and state with total belief that you and God are One. God is in you, all around you - there is no separation between God and you. God and I are One, with God I can do and create anything I can believe and receive.
It IS: State that your Word has power, that you are using the Law of God to create just as God creates the planets, all of us and everything that exists. You have this power in microcosm as a birthright given by God. My Word is the Word of God in my life.
I HAVE: State the condition as healed, the desire as fulfilled. I have a constant source of supply in my life and I live abundantly, for example
GEE THANKS: Express heartfelt gratitude for the healing of a condition or the achievement of a desire - as if it was already done, because it is in Truth. Thank you God for returning my body to the Truth of its perfection. Health and well being course through every cell in my body and I am well, for example. Gratitude is absolutely essential, without it the rest is mere words. By yourself you can do little or nothing, with God all things are possible.
OVER & OUT: Release all thought of the illness, the lack or the want of the desire knowing it is done as you have just spoken your Word. Your Word has all the power in the Universe behind it because you have God behind your Word. You trust totally in the Law of Mind Action that God has given us to create anything we need or want. I release my Word into the Law, knowing that it is done as I speak it. I am well, abundant and happy, Thank you God!
END WITH: AND SO IT IS! Amen is Aramaic for "and so it shall be", use And So It Is instead because it states it in the present (the NOW) which is where the power is! The past is dead and the future hasn't been created yet. Your entire Treatment or prayer must be in the PRESENT TENSE.
