Your Best Friend

The Science of Mind Philosophy is rooted in a bedrock belief in Divine Law. We do not believe in a capricious God that rewards and punishes. We do not believe in a "Parent God" whose relationship with us mirrors that of our Earthly parents. We conceive God to be our Creator - the Most High God and the Indwelling God; one and the same. We believe that the action of God in our lives is impersonal and totally predicable and understandable. There are no mysteries to the ways of God; once you understand the true nature of God and the operation of The Law.


Just what is this operating system of the Universe or the "Law", as we in Science of Mind call it? We all recognize that there are physical laws in this Universe that work every time, no matter who we are or where we are. These Laws play no favorites; they are impersonal but very real. For example, gravity will cause the an object to fall from the hand of a good man or a monster in exactly the same way, at the same speed. We all know that for every action there will be an opposite and equal reaction - no matter where, when or what. These are impersonal, immutable, permanent laws and we know that we can totally depend on them to operate for us in a predictable manner. Imagine life on this planet without these physical laws! Football, baseball, getting out of bed in the morning or just eating a sandwich would be quite an adventure with no gravity, no reciprocal force, no cause and effect.

Most of us would agree that someone or something instituted these laws; that they are part of an ordered and intelligently created Universe. For lack of a better name we call this Intelligent Creative life force God. This Divine Mind is the cause of everything that is. This Mind has developed Laws to run its creation.

The same mind that designed gravity in order that we would not fall off of this round ball that we live on, also designed the spiritual laws that operate our mind and help us create our lives. This Divine Mind operates by Law, has no human caprice or whim and is totally dependable. God is the best friend any of us can ever have - never in a bad mood - always loving and always ready to give us just what we can accept, believe and expect.

We are truly gods in microcosm. We create just as God does but on a much smaller scale. We have been given the same power of creation in our lives as God has in the Universe. A drop of sea water and the Atlantic Ocean are the same substance, made the same way and have the same properties. The difference is only of scale. We are the drop of sea water to God's ocean. That is our true relationship to God.

We are expressions of God. We are to God as our fingers, toes and senses are to us. We are the medium through which God experiences its creations. God works for us, through us - never against us. We are thoughts in the Grand Mind of God.

When we say that God loves us unconditionally we mean just that. God loves what it creates, if it did not it would delete unloved creations from its mind and they would cease to exist; just as we remove what we do not like or love from our lives. God loves because that is the very nature of God. God does not need a reason to love any more than we need a reason to breathe or a bird needs a reason to fly.

What this means to each of us is that we are loved 24/7 no matter what we may believe that we have done that is unlovable or how we have failed to measure up in our own eyes. God can never desert us because God IS us. There is no real separation of God and mankind, only in size and scale - the substance is one and the same. Yes, you are made of the very substance of God and you are Divine in origin and nature.

Now you may not realize this, you may deny this but that matters not. You can no more renounce your Godness than a fish can become a bird. You may rebel against your Divinity and choose to live a life separated from the conscious presence of God - you have that choice and that authority. To make this choice to live a Godless life is a choice for struggle, heartache and separation from the best friend you will ever have. You may life this way if you must, by why?

Because you have been endowed with the Mind of God in miniature, you have the power to know and to use the Spiritual and Physical Laws that God instituted to operate the Universe. Your hands are on the very levers of creation but rather than creating the Universe as God does; your power is to create your life as you can conceive it. The better you understand the Law and the more expert you are at using the Law in your life, the more abundant and happier your life will become. If that sounds simple - it is! It is not easy; lifelong attention to thought word and deed are necessary to become a master manager of the Law.

The Law of Cause and Effect is the Mother of All Laws. Learn this one and you know all you need to know. You are the cause of your entire life. When you desire something, you then picture that desire as achieved, believe that picture to be your truth, take the action necessary and the Law brings it into form. That is exactly how God creates. Desire, Thought, Action and Creation.

A cause always produces an effect - not sometimes but always. When you expect something in your life, you set a causal event in motion and you will see an effect. This works both ways, in the positive and the negative. Fear is a negative causal expectation. By fearing something, you are expecting something bad to happen and if that fear continues the bad thing will happen. The person who understands their true identity and the true nature of God is fearless. They understand that they are the author of their life.

Fear is the greatest enemy of the abundant and happy life. "My greatest fears have come to pass". They always will. You get just what you expect to get. Your happiest expectations, if held in a clear mental picture, empowered with will and faith, will also always come to pass.

What you truely believe about yourself is projected onto the screen of your life and it becomes your reality. What you truly expect in your life is projected onto this same screen and also becomes your reality. What you speak with belief and passion is projected on the screen of your life and it too becomes your reality.

The wise person is very careful about their self talk; expects the good in all areas of their life; speaks only of things of good report and abundance and knows himself to be a good and wonderful creation of the most High God.

There is no better friend to any of us than our dear God, that wonderful Creative Mind that is the First Cause of all that exists. There is no more dependable friend than God's Laws, both spiritual and physical. Without God and the Law, life would be impossible. Thank you God!

The Way It Works!

I am writing to you from London tonight. I have just returned from a small English town by the name of King's Langley in the County of Hertfordshire, about an hour north of London. In the auditorium of a secondary school in this quiet village (the world headquarters of Ovaltine) took place the first Science of Mind conference held in the UK since 1909! How remarkable that Science of Mind and New Thought had almost disappeared in the nation of Thomas Troward, one of the greatest of the Fathers of New Thought and a direct inspiration for Ernest Holmes, the Founder of Science of Mind.

What is even more remarkable is that the auditorium was packed with hardly a seat open. Hundreds showed up, even though the fee for the weekend of speakers, seminars and workshops was 95 pounds-a bit more than $190. There is apparently a great hunger and market for what Science of Mind teaches and this conference, organized and in part funded by volunteers, was a success beyond the most optimistic estimates. Congratulations to all who helped to make this precedent setting conference a reality.


What we don't perhaps realize is that the UK is an intensely secular nation with a real distaste for organized religion of any kind. In England the churches are almost empty and those few who do attend are in their 60's or older. Religion is out but spirituality is very much in.

This is where Science of Mind comes in. We are not a religion, never have been and have no intention of becoming one. We are a spiritual philosophy that appeals to intelligent people looking for something more than a life lived on the surface but we are never divisive or set ourselves apart with special ceremony or do's and don'ts. Rather we empower, enlighten, and teach the thread of Truth at the basis of all life and all religion. Religion, by its nature, divides humanity into camps; each sure that its way is the only way. The world can no longer tolerate religions that divide. The attempted car bombings in London and Glascow over the last two days have graphically demonstrated that the us against them mentality must end.

Never again must anyone kill in the name of God. To do so is to totally misunderstand the very nature of God. God is the Loving Universal Mind which permeates all things. God does not care whether you cover your hair or let it fall to your shoulders. God does not care if you are Muslim or Christian - Buddhist, Jewish or Hindu.

God did not make religion. Religion is a creation of humanity. Let's be clear- no religion is the Truth about God - not one! Religions are, at best, a poor attempt to explain what we do not have the words to explain - the vastness of the Mind of God, the unconditional and everlasting Love of God and the Oneness with God that is our very nature. In rejecting religion, we must not reject God for God is all there is and to reject God is to reject all Creation. God and religion have little or nothing to do with each other.

All that exists in Time and Space begins in the Mind of God. All that exists on this plane of existance begins in the mind of a human, inspired by God. On this world and many others, God works through us, as us. We are the creative agents of God on this earth, empowered by the Mind of God. Creation is the process of transforming the Word into form. This Creative Process has four major components. Let's look at them now, as we contemplate the world as it will be when we all realize at last our Oneness in God.

1. Every act of creation must begin with a desire. Without a vision or desire nothing can be created. Those who want nothing, who have no passion for anything - create nothing. Desire is what creates the mental picture that is the raw material for any creative act. What do you really desire? Love, money, home, children, inner peace and fulfillment - what?

2. A clear and unwavering mental picture of what you desire. When I say clear I mean clear. All the details, the color, taste, smell, how you will feel when it comes into reality and its yours.
This picture is like the slide that you put into the projector at a slide show. Without a picture on the slide, there is no show. What is your picture and how clear is it? It can be as material as a new car or as spiritual as world peace or inner well being. Doesn't matter, one is as valid as the other. Keep the picture clear, don't cloud the lens of your mind with doubt, worries about how it will come or when.

3. Will. Your will is the Will of God individualized. Without will, there is no light with which to project your slide or desire upon the blank canvas of the Law, which is the system of creation.
Your will is central - it is the light bulb in the projector. If it is weak or flickering, so will the picture be cloudy or flickering and your desire will never come into form. Strong will produces strong demonstrations. Remember, the Law is like a white wall upon which you project your desire. The brighter the light, the clearer the picture. The stronger the will and the clearer the picture the more the white wall of the Law can reflect your desire back to you as your reality.

4. Faith. Faith is what keeps your light or will, bright, clear and steady. People who do not trust in the constant operation of God's Laws of Creation have no faith. Without faith the light goes out or flickers on and off. Weak light projects nothing. Faith is the real key.

You see, you must know that when you create your mental picture, put your will to it and keep the faith that your picture will harden into form in accordance with God's Law; that it will happen each and every time. When it does happen you have not caused anything to change, you have just brought what already exists in potential into form. You have managed a power that has always been yours - indeed it is your birthright.

You have not transcended natural Law, you have used natural Law as it is meant to be used. Your desire is already created the moment you desire it; it just needs you to turn on the light, trust in God's Law and let your desire harden into form just as hot wax will always harden into a mould as it cools. It is not magic or New Age, it is spiritual science. It is the Law of Cause and Effect in operation. Your desire is Cause and the Effect is the realization of what you want. Unless you muck it up with a weak will or little faith, it will always happen.

Facts, family and friends will often tempt you to doubt that your desire can happen. They want to make your light flicker, don't let it! Facts are the residue of someone else's beliefs. Facts are desires or beliefs that have hardened into form and they have NO power over you. Ignore the current facts and focus on your desire as already done. Expect it! Creation is independent of precedent. You and God are a majority and nothing can stand against you!

Turn on your light, keep it strong, trust in the process and watch your world transform!
