The Poor Will Always Be With Us!

The poor will always be with us! These words of Jesus The Christ seem so indifferent to suffering; almost cruel. Didn't Jesus pity the poor, feel bad for them, want to improve their lot? Yes...and NO!

Yes, I believe that Jesus was a very compassionate man who loved humanity and really cared about all of us. No, I do not believe that he felt it was in his power or anyone's power to lift up the poor or to eradicate poverty. Why would he say such a thing? The Prince of Peace, the Lamb of God; does he just ignore the plight of his children?

When He said that the poor would always be with us, he was reminding us that poverty is a state of mind, not the wallet. The povery state of mind must precede the physical manifestation of poverty, just as an abundant state of mind must precede the manifestation of wealth. You see, everything begins in Mind. Nothing just happens. We create our reality with our attitudes about life, money, sex, people, love, work. From these attitudes come our daily stream of thought and self talk. What we think and speak about is what appears in our world. What we are on the inside, manifests as our outward reality.

This is a Spiritual Law called the Law of Mind Action and it is just as predictable and just as certain as the Physical Law of Gravity. You can depend on it working in your life for good or ill. It is your choice. You see, sometimes we are stuck in Sunday School spirituality in which we believe that God's laws work only for our good. Like the physical law of electricity, it is there for our good but misused it can blight a life or even kill.

If you live in a state of fear about having enough money, enough love, enough of anything; you are really stating in the clearest terms that you believe that there is not enough; that lack, limitation and scarcity are the laws of the Universe - that this is just way things are!

When you say that, you are saying that you do not believe what God has promised each of us. We are told over and over in Scripture that we need not worry about what we shall wear or how we will eat. Remember the birds of the air and the lillies of the field? They do not worry each morning if they or their children will eat or have a place to sleep. It is provided for them - yes they have to get out of the nest or lift their heads to the sun, but the raw material is provided to them by our magnificent God. Do you think that our great God would do less for the greatest of his creatures? I think not.

Faith is the engine that drives our world. Have faith and all is added to us. Lose faith and believe in the apparent fact of scarcity and limitation and even the little we have shall be lost. We can take ourselves ever upward in a spiral of prosperity and abundance by keeping the faith and believing the promise of the abundant life that God has promised us again and again.

Or we can put our faith in what "they say" or what the facts seem to suggest or what the newspaper and the TV reports. Do this and you will set in motion a downward spiral of poverty and despair.

God or the news? Hmmm, God creates the sun, moon, stars and planets -including our lovely home, Earth. God has given us all the raw material for a grand life! The news, the scientists and all the other fact believers are usually wrong more than they are right and their truth changes from minute to minute. Remember just a few years ago, coffee was the great health hazard and "decaf" became the rage. Now science says that two cups a day is great for your circulation, food for the brain and may even help prevent Alzheimers. God's truth is eternal, dependable and we can see the Truth of it every day! Think I will go with God. How about you?

Trust God who has promised you all that your hands and heart can hold, if you believe. No belief, no goodies! God does not want your begging and pleading, that is a statemnt of non-belief. One does not have to beg for that which is already promised. Just believe, trust and act as if it were already here. Might take time, it was not promised "special delivery" but it will be here unless you pull out the "plug" of faith. God wants your trust, your love and your faith in His Word.

This is why the poor will always be with us. There are not enough good intentions, not enough welfare, not enough charity on the planet to rid us of poverty. Only a change of heart, a dose of faith and a change in thinking can do that. Think poor, be poor. Think abundance, live abundantly!

What to mount a "war on poverty"? Start becoming an example of how a change of mind, heart and a dose of faith can work miracles in your life. Be a light unto others - that will change the world.
