The Power of a Grateful Heart
Every human on this planet has a power at his/her disposal that can transform every day of their life into paradise on Earth. This power unleashes a process whereby even more of what we have and what we desire is given to us. We become a magnet for that which we desire.
It is so simple, so easy, so elemental that it is hard to imagine that most people rarely, if ever, use this power. What is this wonderful gift that transforms lives, heals the body and brings us every good thing?
Gratitude! That is it! Gratitude! A grateful heart attracts good like a magnet; it frees us from the hurts and offenses of the past, it heals the scars on our self image and makes us whole. You cannot be resentful, offended, hurt and grateful at the same time. Now you may say: "Rev, you don't understaned my situation. You haven't been through what I go through each day. I just don't have anything in my life for which to be grateful." You woke up this morning, gratitude for that would be a good place to start!
My answer to you would be that we never know what the other person has to go through, what their fears may be, what hurts they carry inside. No matter how blessed a life a person may appear to have; there are always potholes in their path, pain carried deep within and scars buried deep inside. We all stumble and fall, we all feel pain, we all have fallen short. Dwell on these episodes in your life and get more of the same. What we focus on, think about, speak about, we draw into our life. Scripture tells us that "as within, so without". "As a man thinketh, so he is".
The life well lived is never an accident or "luck". It was created, one thought and one choice at a time. It was created by an appreciation for what we have and that appreciation brings more good to us. Understand that the person who looks like they "have it made" knows something that most people don't.
He or she knows that spending your time giving thanks for what we do have, being grateful for the new day, the warm place to sleep, the child we tucked in to bed, the spouse we held as we drifted off to sleep, brings more joy, more abundance and a deeper, happier life. It's all about focus. Think on things of good report, meditate on what you do have and watch your life bloom. Focus on loss, focus on lack and need, focus on hurt, anger, being right, being justified and watch the little you do have fade away.
This is not the work of God - it is operator error on our part. We have been given the power to operate the Laws of God; the Spiritual Laws that govern all activity in the Universe. If we are bad operators of these laws, bad things happen. It is that simple. You and I are here to learn to be Master Operators of the Law. That is what this life if all about. A grateful heart is essential to right operation of Divine Law in our life and in our world.
